The Escalator Cycle

Patrizio di Massimo

Corso Regina Margherita, 128

In October 2020, a series of large-scale paintings were created at Combo in Turin: Italian artist Patrizio Di Massimo curated a one-month temporary atelier with the Set Design students of the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, producing the canvases for The Escalator Cycle.

The project, curated by Stella Bottai, is promoted by Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art in collaboration with the City of Rivoli and includes a program of site-specific commissions for the public space of the mechanized lift, a system that connects the city center to the Castle.

The paintings, that theatrically depict the feelings linked to exhibitionism, mystery, anger and narcissism of the contemporary world, are exhibited in the spaces of Rivoli’s escalator.

Due to the lockdown, the project will not be open to the public until a later date. It will open as soon as circumstances allow. The project will also be extended for a period equivalent to that of the lockdown (original opening dates: 5 November 2020 – 28 February 2021).

The cycle of La Risalita by Patrizio Di Massimo is part of the ESPRESSIONI exhibition project.
