⟡ James Ferraro is an underground musician/composer/virtual atmospherist, producer, and contemporary artist from the United States. He has been credited as a pioneer of the 21st-century genres hypnagogic pop and vaporwave, with his work exploring themes related to hyperreality and consumer culture. His music draws on various styles such as 80s electronic music, easy listening, drone, lo-fi, sound collage, and R&B. His albums have incorporated themes such as consumerism, cybernetics, cachexia, social experience, hyperreality, post-9/11 New York, lo-fi counterculture, and the collapse of civilization. His 2011 work, "Far Side Virtual," is often credited with helping to spur the development of the Internet-based microgenre vaporwave, although he does not consider himself part of its history.
